The vision of Fritzie's Roamers is to fuel the passion of Indian Motorcycle owners and motorcycle enthusiasts alike.
To encourage and teach safe motorcycle riding as a group and individually. This can be in the form of safety courses, classes and individual discussion.
Support the community through charitable rides, events and other activities to promote goodwill and understanding.
This group will not discriminate against anyone based on race, ethnicity, culture, sex, sexuality or age. All riders regardless of their choice of motorcycle manufacturer can join the group.
Indian Motorcycles and Springfield Massachusetts hold a unique place in the American Motorcycle history. Founded in 1901 it quickly became the largest motorcycle manufacturer. By 1913 it was producing over 30,000 motorcycles and distributing them worldwide through 3,000 plus dealers. The legend of Indian Motorcycle is well known and continues today. It is a legend of people and their machines. One of the most avid promoters was Fritzie Baer. Fritzie was born in Clinton MA in 1901. The same year that Indian Motorcycle was founded. Fritzie would move his family to Springfield in 1933 and became the Indian Motorcycle dealer working out of the factory on State Street.
Fritzie's Roamers originally started out as the Springfield Motorcycle Club and the Western Mass Motorcycle Club. In January of 1934 the members of these clubs agreed to form the Fritzie's Roamers. Fritzie's Roamers went on to become a large club of 125 members. It promoted motorcycle safety and held numerous events including races and charity drives. They won several AMA safety awards and were club of the year several times. Fritzie's Roamers fielded race teams which produced three national champions. Fritzie's Roamers also had a women's auxiliary. These women were pioneers of women motorcycle rides. In 1939 at the Worlds Fair in New York they won first prize for the best women's auxiliary.
